Aims & Learning Outcomes

The programme Higher Diploma in Network and New Media (Mandarin) (E-Learning) is an online course intended to teach students in a virtual learning environment using Mandarin as the medium of teaching.

The programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to journalism, communication, and new media technologies. It offers a robust foundation in new media practices, content creation, and digital communication strategies. Students will gain essential knowledge and practical skills to navigate and succeed in the dynamic field of new media.

                 

                Learning Objectives 

                This programme aims to enable students to:

                • iDevelop Core Journalism and Communication Skills: Introduce students to the foundational principles of journalism and communication, enabling them to create effective content across various media platforms.
                • iAcquire Technical and Analytical Proficiency: Equip students with essential technical skills for multimedia content creation, including video shooting and editing, multimedia graphic processing, web design, and production, while also enhancing their ability to analyze and interpret data to inform media strategies and understand public opinion.
                • iPromote Ethical and Intercultural Awareness: Instill a comprehensive understanding of internet ethics, regulations, and intercultural communication, preparing students to operate responsibly and sensitively in a global digital environment.

                Depending on the chosen specialization, students may either:

                • iSpecialize in New Media Operations: Equip students with advanced skills in convergent media creation, new media operations, media operations and management, and new media user analysis to excel in managing new media platforms and understanding user behavior.
                • iSpecialize in Public Opinion: Provide in-depth knowledge and skills in understanding public opinion, public opinion and data analysis, crisis communication management, and public opinion emergency management and risk prevention to manage communication strategies effectively during crises and mitigate risks.

                Course Structure

                The students are required to study seventeen (17) core modules and four (4) electives in their specialism of interest for a total of 245 credits. Each credit is equal to 10 learning hours.

                  Admission Requirement
                  1. a. Normal Entry 

                  1. 1. Min age: 17 years PLUS 

                  1. 2. Academic Level: 

                  • Completed A-Level with 2 passes OR  
                  • Completed equivalent to at least 12 years of formal education  
                  1. 3. Min language requirement: 

                  • Obtained at least GCE O-Level B4 in Chinese language or equivalent 

                  b. Alternative entry 

                  Mature candidate of minimum age of thirty (30) with at least eight (8 years working experience. 

                  Graduation Requirement
                  1. To earn the academic certificate, students must successfully complete the course by achieving at least a passing grade in all assessments for each required and assigned module.

                  Delivery and Assessment
                  1. Instruction will occur within a virtual learning environment, utilizing a digitally integrated curriculum delivered by qualified and trained educators. Asynchronous classes empower learners to access course materials, complete assignments, and participate in discussions at their own pace, facilitating effective time management and flexibility. Synchronous sessions will be conducted as necessary, ensuring opportunities for real-time interaction. This approach fosters a dynamic and inclusive learning experience, accommodating diverse learning styles and preferences.

                    The teaching, learning, and assessment strategy for each module is meticulously designed to align with the intended learning outcomes, employing pedagogical methods that effectively support these objectives. Assessments will be administered through a secure and comprehensive online examination platform, ensuring the systematic scheduling, administration, and evaluation of assessments while upholding the highest standards of academic integrity.

                    A wide variety of assessment methods will be employed and these include: examinations, courseworks, assignments, projects, etc.

                  Duration
                  1. This is a part-time course and will run for 36 months. Delivery will be for 3 hours per day for 3 days every week for a total of 686 hours. Students are expected to complete the course in 36 months.  

                    Minimum class size is at 30 students. 

                    Maximum candidature period for a student to complete the course is 36 months.

                  Target Students
                  1. The target students are existing students of Wuhan Technology and Business University in China who intend to acquire a USC certification on a part-time basis while also undergoing their degree education at the university.
